Fabbrica Design
A Fabbrica Design space Fabbrica Design is a designer residency programme run since 2014 by the Foundation and the Arts Department of the University of Corsica Pascal-Paoli. In its new format, Fabbrica Design aims to make a decisive contribution to the development of a design style specific to Corsica. The aim is to encourage the creation of new forms and products suited to contemporary lifestyles, whilst drawing on elements of the island’s heritage, as well as the human, technical and material resources available on the island. To this end, we provide our winning designers with the means to familiarise themselves with this heritage, so they can explore forms, functions, uses and materials that can open up new possibilities. To support new rituals, not to revive folklore. To foster rediscovery, not to look to the past. We believe that an object must be true to its purpose, essential, beautiful and perfectly suited to its context to avoid becoming obsolete. This requires a renewed sense of the object’s quality, which fosters a sense of attachment – an appreciation for things that we are irresistibly drawn to share and pass on. Our era is giving rise to «new rituals» that we hope to see take shape by giving form to shared practices, new forms of social interaction, and new human, aesthetic and economic values. Mathilde Ménager, the winning designer of the tenth edition of the Fabbrica Design residency, worked on the theme «Lighting». For Creazione, we will be exhibiting some of the prototypes created by our designer during her residency. All photos and videos can be viewed on the residency’s website: https://fabbrica-design.universita.corsica/
