Hiking : A Nivera di Ville di Pietrabugno

📍Le Parcours

-Departure is from the  Hamlet of Guaitella, accessible by car from Bastia. Several parking areas are available in the village.

-From the village centre, follow the signs to the heritage trails towards La Nivera.

-The trail begins with a gradual ascent through narrow streets and ancient cobbled lanes, and then quickly goes into the undergrowth.

-After a few minutes, you leave the dwellings to take a shady path, bordered by dry stone walls and Mediterranean vegetation.

-The trail alternates between gentle climbs and rocky sections, It also offers a wonderful view over the valley.

-As you progress through the interpretation panels to discover the history of the site and its environment.

-After approximately 50-minute walk, you reach the Nivera, An old building used to store snow.

-This site, nestled in the heart of nature, bears witness to the ancient ice storage practices, used in the past for food and preservation.

-The route is generally accessible, The route is easy to navigate, but requires good footwear because of some uneven sections.

-The location lends itself perfectly to a nature break, in a quiet, shady setting

Did you know?

The name Ville-di-Pietrabugno is thought to come from the ancient «villas» and the surrounding landscape: a «pietra» (rock) forming a «bugnu», meaning swarm, overlooking the Fangu valley.
