A Baroque jewel set in the citadel, this oratory boasts a Baroque décor that is painted, sculpted, carved and gilded. The rocaille and cherubs, the curves and counter-curves evoke the curves of a Louis XV salon. Built on land belonging to the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, this is Vatican territory. The pontifical coat of arms on either side of the 18th-century high altar is a reminder of this. The beautiful altarpiece depicting the Annunciation is the work of Filiberto. The chapel of the Black Christ of Miracles is decorated with a beautiful Renaissance coffered ceiling. The Black Christ, in the niche above the altar, was found at sea by two anchovy fishermen in 1428.
