BRASSERIE PIETRA: PIONEER OF THE BEER REVIVAL IN FRANCE.
One summer evening in 1992, Armelle and Dominique Sialelli, lovers of beer and of their island, were sitting on the terrace of a bar in Corte, regretting that they couldn't enjoy a Corsican beer. The idea was born, and the story of Brasserie Pietra, Corsica's first independent, family-run brewery, began that day. Armelle and Dominique wanted to create a beer with its origins in Corsica. So they developed a recipe that was unique in the world, a chestnut beer: the first Corsican beer was born. It's called Pietra, after the Sialelli family's small village, Pietraserena.
Armelle and Dominique will be travelling the roads of Corsica, showing off their passion for Pietra at the island's fairs and markets. La Pietra will win you over with its taste: a beer with character and flavour, an amber-coloured beer with hints of chestnut and honey.
Today, Pietra is as much a part of Corsica's gastronomic heritage as its brocciu, wines and local charcuterie.
Since then, the recipe has remained unchanged, as has the production process. And the Pietra clan has grown. In 1998, Serena was launched, a light and refreshing pure malt blonde, closely followed by Colomba, a white beer with a nose and mouth reminiscent of the maquis, thanks to the infusion of a blend of aromatic plants in the hopping vat.
Next comes Pietra Bionda, a beautiful chestnut flour blond, developed from the lighter and less bitter Pietra recipe.
It's always been a success, and one innovation follows another. Today, the Pietra clan also includes Pietra Rossa with cherry and morello cherry, Pietra IPA, a floral and intense IPA, Pietra Blanche, a complex and balanced white ale, and very recently Pietra Summer Session IPA, a lively and refreshing beer.
Since it opened its doors, Brasserie Pietra has been committed to preserving the local environment and has adopted a strong environmental approach to its development.
Hugo Sialelli, Armelle and Dominique's son, who has now taken over management of the Brasserie, is committed to becoming even more «eco-responsible».
Under his impetus: heat recovery, lightweight bottles, water recovery and treatment... not forgetting the CO₂ recovery unit, all actions put in place to significantly reduce carbon footprint and water and energy consumption.
Hugo doesn't want to stop there, and a number of projects are under development to continue to consume less, including a line of returnable glasses.
