Bastia, a business destination

SAINT NICOLAS SQUARE

Bordered by the Tyrrhenian Sea, Place Saint Nicolas is a meeting place for Bastians of all ages, who love to gather here for lunch on the terrace, an aperitif with friends, or to relax with the family.

Younger visitors can enjoy the rides, or roam freely on the vast 22,400 m² esplanade, while parents enjoy a well-earned break in the shade of the hundred-year-old plane trees.

Adorned with a bandstand, the Place Saint Nicolas is the scene of numerous events throughout the year: musical events and concerts during the summer, an ice rink during the festive season, as well as numerous trade fairs, including the Salon du Chocolat in October, which attracts thousands of visitors over 3 days.

As for flea market enthusiasts, they'll love strolling through the many and varied stalls at the flea market every Sunday morning, selling antique furniture and objects, postcards and collectors' books, or simply second-hand items.

Now a bustling place of children's laughter and cultural and sporting exchanges, Place Saint Nicolas owes its name to a small chapel dedicated to this saint, built in medieval times next to a Pisan hospital. The square, which is lined with middle-class buildings, is the starting point for a number of tourist routes through the town. It also boasts a war memorial and a statue of Napoleon as a Roman emperor.

Ideally located, Bastia's tourist office sits enthroned on this magnificent square, welcoming thousands of visitors every year.
