Our association is made up of a dozen qualified interpreter-guides and tour guides who have turned their passion for Corsica, and more specifically Bastia, into a profession. The Corse Guides Interprètes Tourisme association was set up in 1999.
Our (all-female!) team is bound by a desire to share its cultural and anecdotal knowledge with a public in search of authenticity:
- culinary traditions that often correspond to
- a religious event
or
- popular beliefs and traditions,
- the Corsican language.
Bastia has many faces.
A secretive city, marked by its military past as the capital of Genoa, it knows how to open up to those who make the effort to visit its oldest quarters.
An open city, with its commercial port, the large Place St Nicolas and its café terraces, its festivals and events that punctuate the life of the city throughout the year.
Each visit offers an immersive experience at the heart of the history and culture of one of Corsica's most beautiful towns. We'll share its hidden treasures with you, as you stroll through the picturesque lanes and squares where old-timers play pétanque, along the quays of the old port cove that welcomes sailing boats and fishermen's rowing boats, along the peaceful lanes of the gardens sheltered from view, and along the imposing ramparts of the citadel that protect emblematic places of worship and offer an unrivalled view of the sea and part of the town.
These are places that, while part of the daily lives of the people of Bastia, continue to bear witness to the vitality, rich heritage and character of the city.
The city has forged its personality over the centuries and continues to surprise us with its bold urban design, some of which has won awards.
