Built in 1589, this sanctuary conceals a decor of rare sumptuousness behind its sober façade. The nave is adorned with gilding, marble and walls covered in wood panelling and scarlet velvet damask. The fresco on the vault, highly representative of Baroque vaults, depicts the Immaculate Conception, the Apostles and the Evangelists. Various political meetings were held here, including the sessions of the Anglo-Corsican Parliament from 1794 to 1796. On this occasion, the throne of King George III of England was installed in the middle of the nave.
